The New Year’s Training

The New Years Training is a friendly match between Cracovias first team and the reserves squad which is played on the first day of a new year. It is a long-lasting tradition that dates back to the 1920s. Some say that a footballer Mieczysław Zygmunt Wiśniewski brought the tradition from Vienna in 1920, while others claim that the first New Years Training took place in 1924 or 1925 when Cracovias player Ludwik Gintel returning home from a New Years Eve party with his teammates suggested they should play a game at the Cracovia stadium.
This years New Years Training ended in the first-team squad winning 3-1. The first goal of 2016 was scored by Bartosz Kapustka at 12:17. Marcin Budziński made it 2-0 and a few minutes later Dariusz Pawlusiński pulled one back.
All of the players had great fun and made sure the friendly match was going to be rememebered for a long time. During the course of the game goalkeeper Grzegorz Sandomierski changed places with a midfielder Mateusz Cetnarski and when with one minute to go the first squad was awarded a penalty kick, Sandomierski stepped up to the plate and made it 3-1, sending the ball past Cetnarski.
